California State University, Sacramento, received the prestigious Governor’s Historic Preservation Award in 1995 for the creation of the Japanese American Archival Collection (JAAC). Presented annually by the California Office of Historic Preservation, this award recognizes organizations and public agencies whose contributions demonstrate notable achievements in preserving the heritage of California. California State University, Sacramento, continues to uphold the standards of increasing public awareness, appreciation, and support for historic preservation.
In 2004, the Library launched the JAAC ImageBase, a digital archive of photographs, documents, and images of artifacts from the Japanese American Archival Collection. The JAAC ImageBase has expanded access significantly to a broad range of constituents, including students, scholars, publishers, documentary projects, and the general public. As the Library continues to develop its collections on Japanese Americans in Northern California, the JAAC ImageBase will also be expanded to include new resources that document this unique and diverse history.
