Description
The
damask
(donsu)
fabric
of this
dashibukusa
employs
a
stylized
pine
cone
motif
known
as
karamatsu
(Chinese
pine)
over
which
an
emblem
of
stylized
wisteria
leaves
has been
embroidered
in
gold
thread
.
It
was
presented
to
Nakatani
Sokiku
in her
third
year
of
study
at
Urasenke
.
Dashibukusa
are
used
to
protect
or
respectfully
display
utensils
in the
same
way
as
kobukusa
,
though
they are
much
larger
. The
karamatsu
pattern
was
particularly
favored
by the
14th
generation
Urasenke
tea
master
Tantansai
(1893-1964)
.
