Description
This
shape
of
mizusashi
or
fresh
water
jar
is
used
in a
particular
tea
procedure
known
as
nakaoki
,
which
occurs
only
in the
last
few
weeks
of
October
. As the
chill
of
winter
approaches
(by
Japanese
reckoning
winter
runs
from
November
through
January)
, the
volume
of the
fresh-water
jar
diminishes
and
it
moves
further
away
from the
guests
, to the
far
side
of the
brazier
.
