. The
pattern
of
paired
ginko
leaves
in
green
and
gold
reflect
the
passage
of
time
from
spring
green
to
autumn
gold
. The
ginko
has been
associated
with the
Urasenke
Tradition
of
Tea
from the
time
of
Sen
Sotan
(1578-1658)
,
third
generation
head
of
Urasenke
.
Sotan
planted
a
ginko
tree
near
the
tearooms
in
which
he
lived
that
flourishes
still
today
.
Furthermore
, the
pattern
of
paired
leaves
borrows
from a
classic
design
known
as "
futari
shizuka
" in
which
two
cranes
appear
to
embrace
one
another
,
wing
tip
to
wing
tip
, their
graceful
necks
bending
in
opposite
directions
.
